Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the NES Title Screen

If you got a knack for the darker side of gaming, you’ll be hard-pressed to find something more rare or butt-crazy than Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the NES. This game is based on a hacked ROM created by Hosekn of USA Co, Ltd that looks and plays like you expect a game of this nature to play: like shit. You are limited enough as is, playing with the NES controller’s two buttons and digital pad, so add on top of that terrible animation and jerky gameplay controls and you are in for a treat.

Starman Jr Plushie

Earthbound (Mother) fans get ready to soil your pants. Etsy user obesolete has created a certifiably cool Starman Jr plushie. At just over 12 inches tall, the plush toy is made from a soft metallic vinyl stuffed with poly fiberfill. The seller also swears that the black details won’t rub off, so don’t you worry about that fading away and press the buy button already.

While scouring the interwebs, aka YouTube, I found this amazing and hilarious real life parody of the old Nintendo NES classic, Paperboy. Definitely makes me want to try out the game again after all these years…

Nintendo Controller Rug

I don’t know if I would have the heart to put my dirty shoes on this Nintendo controller rug. Based on the detail picture (below) it looks like WTCrafts is doing quality work with this one — not your run of the mill rug. Made out of silky soft yarn and plush fleece edging it hopefully feels as good as it looks.

Little Nemo The Dream Master Title Screen

Released on the NES in 1990 by Capcom, Little Nemo: The Dream Master is a game in which the hero, Little Nemo, must make its way into Nightmare land to rescue Morpheus, the king of Slumberland. The game offers eight levels. In each level you had to collect a certain number of keys in order to escape. However, the total number of keys differed from level to level.

Why We Loved It:
As with most Capcom games during this time period, Little Nemo had tight controls and top-notch visuals. In each level there were certain animals that provided Little Nemo with his own unique set of abilities while limiting others. The Mole for example, would allow you to dig underground, but took away Little Nemo’s ability to jump. The Frog would boost Nemo’s ability to jump and swim faster, but could not go underground. To take over an animal’s ability, you had to feed the animal three candies.

Just taking this game again for a spin brought back many frustrating moments as well. In particular the third dream, the House of Toys, where there are some ridiculously difficult moving train level sections.
